Request by capitan Cueto y Vierna for a year license to go to Spain to take care of properties. Illness prevents trip until two years later, interim transfer to Veracruz. Letters from governor to viceroy questioning transfer. Problems arise about salary adjustment and taxes paid. Cueto stationed in Habana due to dissolving of company. Transferred to Veracruz while questions of salary are resolved. King orders rapid solution of entanglement. Request granted by king for Cueto's permanent transfer to Havana. (A. Dell'acqua, 4/27/87)

Describes situation with Indians: murders of and by; religious education of; military strategies used to subdue, and control; agricultural labor of, and transporting to prisons. Tobacco, gunpowder, and land finances listed along with expenditures and troop payments, appointments made in civil offices of governor and justicia. Activities at missions described: crop production, establishment of new orders, rebuilding of destroyed mission, failure of priests to report profits and subsequent conflicts with royal officials, and distribution of mission supplies. Barrio details his service in Spanish and italian armies to virrey to support taking over ailing Ortiz Parrilla's office. Autos, personnel and equipment in establishment of presidio, San Augustin de Ahumada. Barrio requests appointment of his sons as corregidor of Mexico. folio 387 consists of distribution of forces in 3 presidios of Coahuila. Convoy to San Saba suspended when it is learned that Indians plan to abandon presidio; junta de guerra formed. explanation of how Ruby's recommendations for defense have been implemented. (J. M. Summary
Towns against attacks by indians and theft of livestock; concern for loss of life of children of presidio soldiers, hardships of life in province, complaints of wives, requests for transfers or return to Spain; proceedings continue against rabago, dispositions of other criminals for murders committed at San Xavier; appointments and changes of command, Cancio takes charge at Santa Rosa; illness of gobernador requires cancellation of trip to Mexico. Folio 169 is a letter by Sanchez navarro which details difficulties of travel and communication in his area of jurisdiction. Gobernador Barrios, after visitas, proposes ways of reducing danger and hardships to personnel to reduce growing open complaints of life in province. Request for establishment of a military Hospital in el Valle de Santa Rosa, Coahuila. Petition for a surgeon, Sangrador and Boticario. Discussion over salary and travel advances for new doctor and pharmacist. Includes correspondences supporting arguments on salaries and payment of travel advances. Seems Jaime Gursa accepted travel advance for trip from Veracruz to Coahuila but had not shown up yet. Real hacienda makes effort to reclaim money. (T. Cederstrom, October 1986).
