Series of documents concerning tensions between americans and Spanish on Louisiana-Texas frontier. Relates efforts by English and americans to bribe Indians to rebel against Spanish. Includes reports by Spanish agents in Louisiana on american construction of fortifications in Natchitoches and concentration of american troops there under Burr and Wilkinson. Spanish troops in Texas and surrounding areas put on alert as U.s. breaks relations with Spain. Orcoguisac presidio abandoned as Spanish military build-up ensues in Texas. (A. Tukey, September 1988)

Summary
Letters relating to re-establishment of presidio and mission de la Bahia del Espiritu Santo to a healthier and better defensive place, capitan Bustillos communicates that Actual site has deteriorated to an irreparable manner lack of wood makes it impossible to repair also for fuel of families there is not enough wood, area is full of swamps and water is not as good. Capitan Bustillos also complains about lack of priest as president of missions refuse to send a religious guide to presidio. Capitan describes a new explored site with plenty of wood, water and rocks to be utilized for construction, two creeks to provide with drinking water and irrigation of lands and site being only six leagues from bay stressing defensive emplacement. If viceroy desires such move it has to be carried out before winter. Capitan also participates arrival of convoy from presidio Adays and San Antonio four months after it left due to heavy rains. Comisario general of missions sends letter to presidente of missions by order of viceroy ordering him to send a priest to take charge of new mission built in new site of presidio of Bahia. (A. Summary
Letters concerning money allocation for presidios in Alta California. Includes request for raise in pay in Monterrey explaining that expenses are different in different locations. Letter instructing governor of California to distribute as he wishes a total sum of 12000 pesos between the presidios, there will be no raise in the total amount due to large expenses incurred by king in war against Britain. Letter recommending to stop buying cloth due to high prices in Castilla and lack of money in California. Documents mentioning previous documents related to allocation of money to presidios in California while no money has been received by officers. List of goods that have to be payed for, includes different types of cloth, Mantas, hats and shoes . Originals and copies of documents ordering to pay capitan Carcaba the required money for expenses incurred in presidios in previous years. Letters from treasurer promising to give money to Carcaba. Letter from Carcaba asking for specific instructions of what to do with money since it won't be enough for all expenses incurred. Letter concerning payment to Indians employed in construction of Santa Barbara's presidio as it is common in other presidios. Summary
Accounts from San Francisco's presidio from 1776-1781, description of its creation since moragas arrival. Plan of San Francisco's presidio. Receipts from workers with detailed description of materials used and amount of labor required. Description of presidio and the advantages of moving it closer to the barracks to protect San Francisco's port. Letter asking for money to cover expenses for years 1785-1794 and advising not to change the location of the presidio to a more Solid land, instead a convent should be established in San Francisco to produce some monetary gain and conquer the Indians. Correspondence back and forth regarding relocation of presidio, finally permission is denied. Informe sent by Cordova describes how due to the close location of the presidio to the beach, and its construction (Barro y Adobe), every time they have to fire the canons in order to protect themselves the walls of the presidio crumble. Due to the size of the port it is impossible to defend it from enemy ships. Maps of San Francisco's bay and presidio. Summary of materials and expenses for building new presidio. (T. Summary
Neve's correspondence includes (most important documents, service records and promotions, rebuilding mission at San Diego and constructing Capistrano. Details geography of area around San Francisco and Santa Clara mission, especially natural resources. Lists of numbers of officers and craftsmen at four Principal California presidios, supply escorts, real reglamentos pertaining to details of presidio construction and tackle for cavalry companies. Ff. 354-356 is list of salaries and numbers of officers, craftsmen, and rations for presidios crews and ships, including Actual costs vs. Those alloted by missionaries, income from tobacco and other crops, purchase and distribution of mules, horses, and supplies, shipping, tackle for soldiers and settlers. Ff. 359-360 estimates of rations per single man and families, after spoilage in salaries by rank for officers, craftsmen and Naval personnel.
