2 unfavorable letters concerning new missions of San Xavier. First (7/20/1749) notes murder of 2 soldiers, theft of horseherd at hands of Apaches. States that River either floods everyone out or dries up. Claims that despite holy zeal of missionaries, Indians didn't want to work or sow fields, but instead pursue trade between French and Spanish, moving on to Adaes, finds many buildings in ruins, not repaired because of lack of people. King suggests exploitation of Mineral wealth in Sonora and Nueva Vizcaya, proposes construction of casa de moneda in region; viability of plan discussed, disadvantage being lack of funds to mine area effectively, advantages including proximity of Casa to mines and key ports. King orders construction of Casa in Arispe, 3-2-1782; Constanzo named ingeniero in charge, lists tools to be provided to each carpinter and 'herrero' as well as wages for several operarios and maestros; Constanzo explains that delay in executing royal order due to shortage of sujetos de havilidad y conducta.
