Summary
Repetitive accounts of campaign by Mendoza against Seri-Pima alliance. Seri-Pima force of 300 is trapped in canyon, but Mendoza finally decides to withdraw because severely outnumbered. Vildosola receives word of Apache attack against troops near Magallanes. Troops sent to rescue, many Apaches killed. Martinez Villasur advises virrey of Mendoza's death at hands of Seris while traveling to Mexico. (A. Tukey, August 1989)

Correspondence from Mendoza to virrey, mostly concerning reduccion of Seri pueblos on Isla Tiburon; successful conclusion of peace treaty with Seris and Pimas, although notes some isolated Cases of continued hostilities; notes difficulties in reduccion of Papagos due to their excellent mastery of bow and arrow; recounts efforts to exterminate Apaches, to contract alliance with other tribes against Apaches; peace treaty broken by Seris leading to conclusion by Mendoza that they will never be reduced and requests for more arms to help exterminate them. Also includes documents concerning murder case against Figueroa. Mendoza orders expedition to explore area around Altar. Summary
Pineda informs Cruillas of increase in Indian raids. Apaches steal horses and cattle in fronteras; soldiers recovered cattle and take captives. States Seris are away from Cerro Prieto and that it would be good opportunity to attack them; some Indians killed and others captured. Apaches steal horses in Bac, and soldiers from Tubac and Indian auxiliaries killed some Apaches and injure others. Expedition of friendly Indians against enemy ones; only a few enemy Indians killed. Pineda plans large expedition with soldiers and Indian auxiliaries against enemy Indians. (J. Tapia, may, 1988)

Summary
Documents report Apaches killed Pimas near Tucson, taking captives and horses; Apaches exchange captives in Corodeguachi, one of them a sargeant who reports of future raids by Apaches. Soldiers attack Apaches killing several. Apaches attack merchant near Cananea destroying mining tools, and they also steal horses in reveicu; Apaches kill friendly Indians in Bac, and killed other people in Cumpas. Seris and Pimas kill people in Santa Barbara, Sauce, and in Pitic they kill friendly Indians. Troops dispatched to Buenavista and San Joseph to protect area. Soldiers attack Seris and Pimas in Sauce killing several Indians. Pineda states soldiers are in continous movements but since there are so many places where the Indians come from, impossible to search for all of them. (J. Tapia, may, 1988)

Summary
Documents deal with experiences and troubles encountered by Cancio on his trip from Mexico to Buenavista. The purpose of new presidio is to control warring Seris and Pimas. Cancio decides to travel by ship in order to reach destination promptly. Unable to travel by sea, and he continues by land. He complains of hot Weather, lack of food and water along route. He also complains of difficulties in getting people to become soldiers; and their fear of Indians. Other documents deal with lack of food, arms, and clothing for troops at Buenavista. Stated that soldiers must set good example in order to be respected by the Indians. (J. Tapia, April, 1988)

Summary
Discussion that establishing new presidio of Buenavista will help combat enemy Indians in the area, but small number of soldiers makes this difficult.
