Philip III orders Don Pedro de Acuna, governor and captain general of the Philippines, to assist Sebastian Viscaino who has been ordered to settle the harbor of Monterey. The importance of this document lies in its account by Philip III of the expedition on which Sebastian Viscaino, an experienced navigator, discovered Monterey and explored the coast in between on order of Don Luis de Velasco, Former viceroy of New Spain - description of native inhabitants of the coast and their mention of gold. Questions regard the disposition of the native peoples, their dress, food, and agriculture, minerals in the province, the native religion, the number of Spaniards, livestock, the assigning of encomiendas, the state of conversions. A copy of a report made by Bodos to Onate concerning a journey captain Bodos and companions made to la Provincia de Mohoquis to search for groups of persons and mines. The group left the Provincia de Mohogui in November 1598 and porceeded west until they came to rancherias de indios Jumanes (humanos). Guides were selected and the group was led through rich grazing land to the mines which produced both dark metal and the green and blue Tones that are polished (turquoise).
