3 letters by Tapia, same date, concerning peace negotiations, prisoner exchange with Apaches. Number of Spanish prisoners recovered now 14, but Toribio Bojorquez not one of them. Apache prisoners in Chihuahua being rounded up to exchange for Spanish prisoners among Apaches, horses stolen from San Bartholome. Tapia describes Rivera's encounter with Nantaneju and his band of Apaches of Rio Casas Grandes concerning Spanish doubts of Apache fidelity, prompting Pachateju to come to Janos to tell Tapia Apaches mistrust Spaniards because Former Janos presidial capitanes have always imprisoned them during peace negotiations. Summary
Chiricahuas send 2 emissaries to Tapia telling him to come to Sierra del Medio to get Felix Guerra, Spanish soldier held by Chiricahuas. At same time, emissary from Gilenos, Mimbrenos under Nataneju, Pachateju, el Surdo tells Tapia Chiricahuas planning a trap. Tapia assembles 72 soldiers, including militia from El Paso under Miranda, Opatas under general Varela, Marches to el Medio. Chiricahuas ransom guerra for 10 horses, then 300 of them appear to attack Spaniards. Because of ruggedness of territory, Tapia retreats to presidio. Muniz commends Tapia on his caution, tells him Gila Apaches have many Spanish prisoners in mountains. (T. Sheridan) (1977)

Concerns Yaqui rebel activity in Ostimuri, Pimeria Baja. Notes abandonment of reales of Rio Chico, Guadalupe, which rebels then sacked. Describes resistance of Pimas from Onavas to rebels, and Pima's victory over rebels, 5 of whom taken prisoner. Includes translation of 6/16/1740 letter to Arce from Yaqui rebel leader Juan Calixto, who assures Father rebels are catholics and lays blame for uprising on gobernador Huidobro, implying Yaqui resistance to imposition of Spanish civil authority.
