The cabildo of San Phelipe el real petition the governor to do something about the scarcity of food stuffs and the resulting high prices of them, due to poor harvests. They claim they are being robbed by merchants from other areas. The governor orders prices down and then demands an inventory of grains from merchants and ranchers. Document incomplete. The Indians in the Vicinity of Lajas petition the Alcalde mayor and the governor for land, as they don't have enough to support themselves. After conferring with nearby pueblos, the gobernador grants their request. Good detail on crops, animals. Also census for three villages. (T. Barnes) (1976)

Due to a shortage of grain (wheat and corn)-various regulations are issued covering planting and harvesting, selling and prices, and conditions and wages of laborers. In this ^class action^ the citizens of Santa Barbara request of the governor Diego Guajardo Fajardo permission for more corn to be sold in their community and request from the church in Durango an emergency shipment of 400 or 500 (lbs?) of flour. Their request is granted (?). One document mentions 70 families in S. Barbara - and it appears there has been some ^restlessness^ on the peoples part.
