Corbalan's response to viceregal letter in which he suggests Seri harvest be stored and meted-out to them, and believes 800 fanegas should be sufficient to feed Seris. Index of correspondence that concerns the Indian complaints of damage done to irrigation water is ff. 0363; ff. 0364 covers abstract of correspondence that deals with soldiers wives requesting money assigned to them by governor, request granted; ff. 0365 concerns the leave of absence granted to Ramon so that he can be married, mention of the dowry required; ff. 0366 covers the result of a judicial proceeding (indictment) against Esparza for the crime of desertion and his punishment of 8 more years military service; the request of, Sanchez for land for raising livestock near Llera and other areas, justifies his request by citing the strategic utility in closing up two areas of escape for Indians; ff. 0368 deals with documents used in the case of Alvarez in which he murdered his wife, is not entitled to Fuero militar; request by Molina that he be transferred to another area where he owns a ranch that he is in jeopardy of loosing if he does not receive transfer, request is granted and Salcedo allowed to pick substitute from Veracruz; letter that concerns Indian complaint lodged against Castillo in protest of his pushing them off their land. The acquisitioning of medals to be given to indians from the casa de moneda and reimbursement for the cost of the medals, correspondence covers from 1805-1807; letter from Salcedo discussing the minting of the medals; total requested were 100 medals; folios 338 and 339 are partial documents only; folios the possession of balerdi which once belonged to the abolished ways and means of militias; the sum was a product of the contributions of various people and therefore now belong to the real hacienda; matter has been taken up by the real tribunal y audiencia de la contaduria mayor; folio 335 says only Sonora; folio 0346 concerns the naming of ramos to alcalde for the santa hermandad in the jurisdiction of gualican; folio 0347 concerns the complaint of saenz rico's sister in law that he does not support his children in Mexico, decision made to deduct 40 pesos monthly from his salary towards this end; folio 0347 covers an expediente dealing with military promotions (no names mentioned); folio 0349 concerns the termination of position of contador de menores filled by vazquez Franco with correspondence telling him of his rights and privileges; folios 0350-0351 outline expediente that deals with why tributes were not collected from rosario. Nava informs virrey that Lipanes de arriba are very cooperative in peace treaty; Lipanes de Abajo do not want peace. explains that de arriba habit of hunting Cibolo twice a year is cause of discord between bands. Apaches are poorly disciplined, unused to following one chief; lay of their land makes it difficult to anticipate attacks. Mentions attack by Mescaleros, supported by troop, against Comanches; conflict resolved. Texas gobernador preparing campaign against de Abajo Lipanes. Summary
Nava informs virrey that he told Texas gobernador how to treat Lipanes de Arriba y de Abajo; of peace treaty signed by Nava and Arriba Lipanes on February 8, 1791 -- copies sent to gobernadores of Coahuila, Texas, Nuevo Leon, Nuevo Santander. Virrey asks Nava to consider how either to make peace with all Lipan bands or to make war to obligate them to request peace; king spends more than a million pesos defending provincias. Virrey orders Nava and Castro to discuss Indian situation, send him information to make decision. (D. Bautista, April 1990)

Summary
Thirty pages concerning Nava's nomination to comandante de las provincias de Poniente. letter from virrey giving Nava command of provincias in place of Ugarte, with detailed information of situation he will find in provincias; advice concerning maintenance of peace with Indians, character of gobernadores; instructions from Galvez for dealing with Indians in war or peace. Nava agrees to nomination, requests from virrey economic support to succeed in pacification of Indians. Further detailed instructions from virrey on how to manage financial situation; also informs Nava that Castro has been appointed comandante de provincias de oriente by king, that Nava should meet Castro in Monclova.
