Another in a long Series of complaints of illicit cohabitation (ilicita amistad), this one notable for the ethnic combinations involved, Rosalia (a Loba) is married to Thomas (a mulato slave), but is Charged with illegal friendship with Juan, an Indian. (R. Perez) (1977)

Antonio Maria, an Apache from las Cuevas, is apprehended in minas Nuevas for suspicious behavior, and on suspicion that he's spying for enemy Indians. He claims he's a Tarahumara, but has no traveling papers. Testimony includes observations of Apache camps with stolen livestock (and some description of herding technology) and large herd of horses. Jose Sanchez, a blacksmith, is imprisoned for debts. He causes much trouble in the jail, and escapes in order to liberate 2 women from the women's jail. They decline. Nothing much results from the incident, but the testimony of various prisoners gives an interesting insight into this facet of Colonial society, including the racial overtones. (R. Perez) (1977)

Testimony of those in the process of carrying out the punishment of three men (probably Spaniards) who aided in the escape of an Indian. The punishment is extremely severe and degrading- paraded through Parral on burros; given 200 lashes by 2 Tarahumaras (who, as a prisoners, functioned as executioners); sentenced to eight years at hard labor.
