Manuel Antonio Gonzalez files a complaint with de Riva against Xavier Ortega (mulato Libre) who broke his shackles and fled the Mina Fontanena. Ortegas wife (Gregoria Gonzalez, Mestiza) had previously complained to Gonzalez about the treatment her Husband was receiving. Not withstanding, Ortega is ordered to return to work for Gonzalez to pay off the price of the broken shackles, a stolen horse, and the cost of judicial proceedings. Gonzalez writes gobernador Velasquez about the incident, the latter responds that the justicia mayor should never impose prison sentences on unruly servants or even bother to hear their Cases in court. The justicia mayor, hearing that a woman has been shot with a trabusco (blunder buss), rushes to the scene of the crime. It develops that Juana Vasquez, entering the house of Antonio Martinez, found Fransisco playing with a trabusco. They exchanged a few words about shooting, at which point the trabusco fired, hitting Juana in the knee. The wound being mortal, Fransisco (mulato age 10) is put in the carcel. He is allowed to leave as soon as it is determined that there was no evil intent and Silbestre Gonzales agrees to not press charges. (P. Hayes) (1977)

Artalejo receives word that an indio has escaped from a chain gang at the jail. Going to the jail, he finds a prisoner guarding the Door, and the Alcalde of the prison absent. It developes the indio escaped while ostensibly fetching water. Apparently Pedro Lizondo (Alcalde de la carcel) allowed prisoners to fetch food and water and run errands in general without escort or shackles. As an example to future Alcaldes de carcel, Pedro Lizondo (espanol) is ordered to replace the escaped Indian in the chain gang. (P. Hayes) (1977)

Velario Cortes del rey sells an Esclava de color cocho- Maria Josefa (age 30) to Ana de Albarado. The distinguishing characteristics of the slave are given- short, fat, pockmarked, and a large mole on her right cheek. Yet she sells for 300.00. (P. Hayes) (1977)

Jose Miguel Bustamante appears before the justicia mayor accusing Pio Reyes of having stolen a Comal, Caso, and various other items. Pio Reyes admits stealing the Comal and Caso, but denies having stolen anything else. He is sentenced to work for Bustamante to pay the cost of the Comal- 11 pesos. (P. Hayes) (1977)
