Informes from Michelena, Maitorena, and Bergana to Crespo concerning the condition of commerce in los Placeres. All of them emphasize that the condition of production of los Placeres decreases from may to October because the Indians go to the hills and the Spaniards engage in agriculture tasks. Court case brought against Indian prisoner Gaspar; indication that other Indians including Pimas rebeldes may have been involved in robberies and murders of Spaniards. One testimonio contains identification of various Indians including physical description, marital status, residence, ethnic affiliation and type of dress. Document concerns payment of salary to Castro and his embarkment from Veracruz to puerto Rico where he will assume governorship. Castro's ill health forces him to go to Mexico and delay trip. Castro's salary given. Castro requests right to freely transport luggage and other items from Mexico to puerto Rico. F. 28 gives regulations concerning quantity of money each class of military personnel is allowed to transfer from one country to another. Rest of Series concerns important rules and regulations governing Colonial trade. F. 30 mentions real Orden of 1779 establishing taxes and other rules for exporting gold and silver from America to Spain. F. 33 describes shipment of cacao from Guayaquil to Spain and import Fee levied on said shipment. 1774 decree of commerce of the quatro reynos stated relating to gold and silver from Peru and Guatemala. Taxes on gold and silver reiterated , as well as, need for laws relating to import of soldiers, wine, sugar, and fruit. Final folios resolve Castro's case and determines amount of goods he can import to puerto Rico, duty-free. (P. Lenz, March1990)

Correspondence between viceroy, Garces and de Anza concerning Garces's explorations in upper Colorado River with attachment of letters from fray Escalante about Zunis and area in case Garces travels to New Mexico from Colorado River. Accounts by de Anza on expedition to California, his turning command over to comandante Moncada, refusal of Moncada to travel to San Francisco to explore area for establishment of presidio and missions, de Anza travels with teniente Moraga, one priest and eight soldiers to explore San Francisco bay. de Anza gives an rich description of bay with its good soil, abundance of water, pastures, and wild animals and fish, meeting with Indians who fish with nets and use of balses made with reeds to cross bay and fish. de Anza does not name Indians but describes them as gentle. He also describes area to be rich with woods from which construction of fort would be easy. de Anza establishes places where missions and presidio should be built returning to Monterrey where he requests meeting with Moncada without success. Serra meets with Anza preoccupied with moncadas' attitude with friars and families from Sinaloa, teniente Moraga in letter to Anza believes comandante Moncada has lost his mind which results in his not wanting to follow planned agenda. Documents about rebellion in San Diego are not very clear, de Anza also describes desertions of some muleskinners and two soldiers who steal some horses and moragas capture of desertors in Gila where de Anza punishes them with laboring in construction of presidio and missions in San Francisco. Anza informs viceroy about Garces return to Colorado River leaving him foodstuffs for his sustenance as Anza returns, also fray Exiarc returns with Anza to Tumacacori mission. Capitan Palma and three Yumas with accordance with his people attaches himself to Anza to travel to Mexico. Viceroy answers Anza letting him know he is displeased as Anza did not finish his comission as he left before construction of fort and missions began. (A. Dell'acqua, January 1988)

Autos of residencia against Bustillos y Zevallos by edict of king and ordered by viceroy to comply with laws which investigates administration of governor at end of his term. Investigation is by governor Sandobal questioning all personnel involved with administration under Bustillo and Indian heads and people at large in province. Various documents to viceroy including letters from Bustillo about his walk for a month from presidio Bahia to Adays to take over office of governor, carrying supplies of flour, cattle, horses, sheep, clothing, describing hardship and lack of watering holes thru journey. Bustillo indicates to viceroy his perception about Indians of area stressing his wanting to remain friendly with them, governor visits each town for 24 hours, sending his own horse to bring to a meeting a doubting chief. Governor wants to replace soldiers of color quebrado who he thinks are not to smart as Spaniards, fills Plaza of liutenant and Alferez for presidio in temporary Basis as title holders are sick, pays salaries to soldiers stressing not to advance monies in liu of salary but only providing soldiers with supplies. Governor makes lists of inventories of crown properties including armament, makes a military roll in which copy he calls himself gobernador y capitan general de las provincias de Thexas y Nueva philipinas, governor also indicates lack of gunpowder for cannons; reports trade between Frenchmen and Indians, French bring vegetables to trade for soap, tobacco, Chocolate with soldiers of presidio. Two Frenchmen request license to trade openly with Indians but governor negates license as he believes there are to many arms and ammunition among Indians which he believes the French have provided.
