Letters from justicias mayores to viceroys Mayorga and Galvez advising and requesting not to accept peace requested by Apaches Lipanes in Santander due to historical avoidance in order to maintain peace of Indians with Spaniards and other tribes friendly to Spaniards. Justicias mayores detail attacks on towns and haciendas enumerating depredations which include killings by burning of children and women, carrying some prisoners as slaves and tortures of same. Included are documents about depredations carried out by Comanches whose union with Taguayares and Texas have become a force which is very difficult to deal with due to few soldiers in presidios and detachments in towns. Lengthy expediente with copies of many letters dealing with transfer of military troop. Lipanes have been raiding in Coaguila and Nuevo Leon. Mentions that military troop in Quatrocienegas would be positive, as that is area in which Lipanes travel back and forth in their raids. Some people complain that if troop is removed from Alamo, Indians would attack this region, and area may be depopulated. Statements that if Parras and Alamo fall, Indians may go as far as Zacatecas. Other letters state lack of grass, water, and firewood for proper maintenance of troop in Alamo. Mention of abundant grass and water for horses and cattle in Quatrocienegas. People in nearby haciendas may be resettled in Quatrocienegas. Discussion of animosity between Comanches and Lipanes; plans that Former may be used in battle against Lipanes. Documents deal with account of battle in San Miguel against Lipanes; discussion that account is greatly exaggerated with respect to number of Indians killed as well as number of weapons, horses, and other things taken from Indians. Castro orders official investigation of battle; Tovar as well as many soldiers give detailed account of condition of horses, etc. Mention that Tovar is not at fault for he wrote account according to accounts of his soldiers.
