Long list of food supplies (meat, seeds, cigarrettes) given to peaceful Apaches. List broken down weekly with specific amounts given to Indians. There is also mention of raising cattle for maintenance of Apaches, and reduction in amount of seeds distributed. Mention that reduction in food has resulted in some desertions. (J. Corbalan's response to viceregal letter in which he suggests Seri harvest be stored and meted-out to them, and believes 800 fanegas should be sufficient to feed Seris. Llanos y Valdes, the bishop, is accused of carefully cutivating several crops while not allowing any of the benefits to go to the poor or to the public in general. Mention is made of the halted construction in Monterrey of cathedral, Hospital, convent, and seminary. Several informes addressed to the virrey Revilla Gigedo asked him to find speedy solutions to the various problems caused by the bishop; one even asked for the aid of the church in Madrid. As one author stated, the overall problem is the mismanagement by Llanos y Valdes of the Diezmos for the diocesis. On January 24, 1794, Llanos de Valdes wrote to Revilla Gigedo on his own behalf; he denied mismanaging the Diezmos and said that the money made from the crops was enough to cover only a portion of the debts of the Diezmos. Additionally, Llanos y Valdes' excommunication of Rubalcava came up again (he received such treatment for being absent from the Pesqueria el Grande Valley without the permission of the bishop). Ff. 427 is chart of monetary transactions for ecclesiastical items. Ff. 421 and 431-435 and 439 are also charts; they are copies of pages from rublacava's books as contador de Diezmos for Monterrey. Muniz sends a relacion to Santianes of the importe del diezmo explaining in detail what positions they have, what has been sold, and what has been collected. All the information will be send to reales Caxas de San Luis Potosi. The king sends a letter to virrey giving approval to the establishment of the new Obispado. Areche informs virrey about the collection of Diezmos in Nuevo Santander by the administrator and gobernador. iglesia metropolitana sends a letter to virrey stating that they agree to make the accounting of the new bishopric separate. Royal decree of January 5, 1773, states that the construction of the new cathedral will be in Linares with the name of Nuevo Reyno de Leon, for the new colony of Nuevo Santander; the diezmos for construction of the cathedral will come from 26 villages. The royal decree also states that Indians will not pay Diezmos with the hope that they will stay in the colony. Virrey gives the governor of Nuevo Santander the responsibility of naming the persons responsible for collecting the Diezmos and for the churches of Guadalaxara and Valladolid to keep an accounting of the Diezmos collected for the new cathedral. The summary of the Diezmos collected is presented on folio 22. Virrey requests a detailed listing of Diezmos from the Obispado of Guadalaxara of the Diezmos received from Reyno de Leon, Coahuila and Texas for the last five years. Sierra sends the information to the virrey. Gonzalez de Santianes is commissioned to certify the Diezmos from the villages. folio 28 is located between folios 55 and 56, is a relation signed by Vidal de Lorca explaining that Goicochea is responsible for the collection of Diezmos in that jurisdiction. Dionis went to Diego Ramon's presidio to present the map of the summary of autos written in 1688 and 1689 on the Asinay and Tejas Indians, their lifestyle, descriptions of the presidio called Espiritu Santo or San Luis or San Bernardo, its need to be populated by Spanish settlers rather than French and the measures taken to convert the Indians, establish security and trade. Leon sets off from Coahuila in 1684 to investigate a French settlement near the Rio Grande del Norte. Its location in degrees and minutes is given. Boat wreckage from French settlers is found. Leon suggests that presidios into the Tejas provinces be established for at least 1 million Indians could be converted and land is very fertile for farming. Very little progress made until after 1693 (reasons listed on ff. 440-445). Details of the Indians lifestyle and the settling of the Tejas provinces continues through ff. 451. Continuance of hearing of French spies trespassing into Tejas provinces (See Vol. 181.iii) in front of tribunal from ff. 452 - 471. Equiping of presidios and missions is covered in detail.
