Escandon also visits Cadereyta and Tilaco mission; provides description of 4 companies of troops and discussion of need for more troops to capture fugitive mocos jonases, as well as need for more religious personnel. Description of mission structures; provides names of Pame Meco officials and census of ignorance of Christian teachings, also example of polygamy among Indians. Establishment of San Miguel de Conca and Santa Maria de Agua de Landa misions for Mecos, describes natural resources and division of land to Indians for corn production. Ff 126-127 census of Mecos Pames from Santa Maria de Agua de Landa divided by rancherias. Establishment of San Miguel Conca mission by Escandon with help of Fernandez de la Rama, Romero, and Peruzquia; includes description of surroundings and crops, naming of civil officials, census of Mecos Pames ff. 132-136, 138-139, and list of fugitives from mission. Three chain gangs sent from Guadalaxara to Mexico and costs expected to feed each adult and child; children may be given away for adoption to be educated and christianized; Loredo is in charge of gang that originated in Arispe consisting of escapees and he is to pick up more in Guadalaxara that are destined for Mexico City. expense records are to be kept to justify monies received in Guadalaxara for the real hacienda in Mexico. Loredo receives an escort from Guadalaxara to Mexico City. Receipts of monies spent along the trail are signed by local leaders. expense lists are on ff# 85-86. (E. Wilson, October 1989)

Documents primarily regarding death of Apache Meco Jose Maria of emotipsis, who was baptised before he died; also mention of 27 Mecas escaping from Hospicio de pobres and orders that they be imprisoned if captured; little significant data except regarding death of above Apache. Several letters and oficios regarding fugitive Meca women prisoners from Hospicio de pobres; eventually some are captured; orders circulated to subdelegados to apprehend and imprison Meca fugitives who will then be sent to royal prison in Havana; among these documents are inserted unrelated letters (copies) investigation of troops' finances; this protested in another letter as offensive to hard-working, dedicated soldiers; not very rich in detail. Series of documents dealing with military campaigns against Apache Indians; summary of Indian activities and hostilities against the Spaniards; military operations against Indians resulted in the recovery of horses, cattle and the capture of Indians who were taken prisoners and cut their ears off, some Indians were decapitated; chart in this document condenses outcome of military actions against Indians (number of prisoners, combat casualties, Indians killed and animals recovered); military operation is organized and leaves in pursuit of Indian leader who escaped from coachi; letter is sent to the viceroy giving notice of Apache leader being resettled in presidio of Tupson. Series of documents concerning prosecution of several Indian leaders who are accused of inducing other Indians to rebel against Spaniards. Document give details of the kind of crimes the Indians are accused of I.e. killing some Spaniards and stealing. Indians are put in jail and interrogated but later released (M. Marroquin, August 1989)

Provincias Internas are divided into western, commanded by Ugarte y Loyola, and eastern, commanded by Dufay; Pinon [Pison?] eruptions cause Dufay to make military visits; Dufay searches for Capitancillos and Pinones, either they turn themselves in or a bounty will be placed on their heads - dead or alive; receipt of novedades and military reports; primera compania de Monterrey receives an alferez primero. Brief correspondence, intermitant since intendente is inspection delayed due to Corbalan's illness; Dean of real Audiencia advises that Antelo is fugitive dressed in Robes of a Religioso fernandino, viceroy orders Antelo's arrest; irrigation Canal for Seris; report on pearl fishing; budget projection requested for rebuilding churches at Charay and Suaqui; questions over intendente's salary since June 1770, including military expedition; Croix relates Seri uprising. F. 396 is good summary of contents since it is representationes from Corbalan to viceroy for February 6, 1777 to July 30, 1778. Alcabala tax on gold; Corbalan reports that while traveling he received no Superior orders from viceroy; intendente explains why he returned to Alamos, instead of Arizpe, governor of Sonora detained in Chihuahua. Separation of capitan Laso from command as captain of dragones de Espana and replaced by his Brother. Authorization to recruit personnel in Chihuahua to replace retired personnel and injured personnel. Transfer of two bison (civolos) from presidio Bahia to Mexico in route to Spain as gift to king. Various documents on disturbance of the peace. Request for teachers from Spain to guide Indians in the cultivation and process of linen. Burning of presidio Orcoquisa and establishment of new settlements in Coaguila. Payment of 10 and 5 pesos respectively by claimants of ownership of mules and horses recovered by military personnel set by viceroy.
