Three chain gangs sent from Guadalaxara to Mexico and costs expected to feed each adult and child; children may be given away for adoption to be educated and christianized; Loredo is in charge of gang that originated in Arispe consisting of escapees and he is to pick up more in Guadalaxara that are destined for Mexico City. expense records are to be kept to justify monies received in Guadalaxara for the real hacienda in Mexico. Summary
Brief correspondence, intermitant since intendente is inspection delayed due to Corbalan's illness; Dean of real Audiencia advises that Antelo is fugitive dressed in Robes of a Religioso fernandino, viceroy orders Antelo's arrest; irrigation Canal for Seris; report on pearl fishing; budget projection requested for rebuilding churches at Charay and Suaqui; questions over intendente's salary since June 1770, including military expedition; Croix relates Seri uprising. F. 396 is good summary of contents since it is representationes from Corbalan to viceroy for February 6, 1777 to July 30, 1778. Alcabala tax on gold; Corbalan reports that while traveling he received no Superior orders from viceroy; intendente explains why he returned to Alamos, instead of Arizpe, governor of Sonora detained in Chihuahua. Correspondence between viceroy, comandante Croix and officials within Provincias Internas of which following stand out. Transferring of monies from Caxas reales to Mexico but of new coinage. Separation of capitan Laso from command as captain of dragones de Espana and replaced by his Brother. Authorization to recruit personnel in Chihuahua to replace retired personnel and injured personnel. Transfer of two bison (civolos) from presidio Bahia to Mexico in route to Spain as gift to king. Various documents on disturbance of the peace. Request for teachers from Spain to guide Indians in the cultivation and process of linen. Burning of presidio Orcoquisa and establishment of new settlements in Coaguila. Payment of 10 and 5 pesos respectively by claimants of ownership of mules and horses recovered by military personnel set by viceroy. Transportation of new pistols from Spain to presidios in Provincias Internas. (A. Dell'acqua April 1988)
