Jesuits discuss Franciscan attempt to missionize Tarahumaras along Rio Papigochic on pretext Conchos live there too, which Jesuits deny. Relates Indian unrest, dislike of Franciscans. Warns of potential uprising if Franciscans allowed to settle in area. States some Tepehuanes, similar to Jovas, live near Yepomera, but no Conchos. Considers Jovas, Tepehuanes the same. 1621 inhabitants in Oposura, Cumpas. People both pueblos speak Hore (Opata dialect). Inhabitants Oposura gente ladina because of presence Spanish miners San Juan Bautista 7 leagues away. People work in mines, raise abundant harvests, live in flat-roofed houses, have beautiful 3 Nave church, good religious band. Indication some problem caused by wage work in mines, however. Linguistically, culturally related to Warihios, although language closer to Tarahumara because of proximity. Gentile Indians in area process being reduced. Describes other warihio pueblos to east-guazaromes, Zerocavi, Quecamuri, Balopilas, goaguachi, Xiquiriepo-with 3213 newly baptized inhabitants awaiting reduction. 870 inhabitants Chinipa, Guadalupe de Warihios. Partido in Sierra Madre. Chinipa newly resettled because of previous warihio disturbances. Guadalupe de Warihios, called Tayrachi by Indians, site where frs. Pascual, Martinez Martyred. Inhabitants both pueblos speak warihio, similar to taraura (Tarahumara), with slight differences, principally in the grammar. Many gentile Indians in area in process being reduced. Area quiet now. 847 people Bacum, cocrit. Notes that although Yaquis once most valiant enemies Spanish, now peacefully reduced. States some pueblos have lost many people to epidemics, emigration to mines, many of whom have practically abandoned Yaqui country. Pueblos more populous in past.
