Ugarte informs Flores of vacant lieutenant position in Chihuagua and recommends Montes for it. Ugarte acknowledges Romeu's condition of relajamiento de Tripas, but states Romeu is able to do the job of comandante de las Armas de Sonora. Summary
Ugarte informs Flores of Ansa's death and suggests Medina as temporary comandante de Armas de Sonora, and Romeu to occupy position permanently. Medina informs Ugarte his disposition to give Ansa's widow, Regina, the inheritance. Ugarte approves decision and temporarily gives him Ansa's position. On letter of January 16 Flores approves appointment of Romeu as long as he maintains old salary. On January 30 Flores states that Romeu's illness of relajamiento de tripas makes him unfit for position in Sonora. (J. Tapia, July, 1987).

Summary
Discourse between the governor of Sonora and the viceroy concerning various matters of provincial administration as to absent viceregal proclamations concerning issuance of new coinage, mail franchises, and announcement of birth of Infante Carlos Clemente (ff. 309-315). Concerning gubernatorial visita Colonel of provincial militias of Pardos y Blancos of several jurisdictions to Juan Antonio Caneda, Vecino of Rosario; brief letter, written at Mazatlan stating that, Sastre, as governor, will protect and give assistance to missionaries, destroy abuses committed against Indians... etc. Letters written at Culiacan and Alamos discuss order to send viceroy intendente Corbalan's financial account of military expedition of Sonora; response to viceroy's order that said intendente make visita of mines of province; formation of flying company under command of O'Conor to put down Indian unrest in Chihuahua (See below); governor's suggestion that if Indian named Calixto does not mend his rebellious ways, then prison sentence be considered (315-335). Letters written at Horcasitas discuss governor's order stating that copy of letters from presidial commanders be sent directly to viceroy (336,337). Summary
Autos sent to Mayorga concerning payments withheld from captain Mesia due to question of accurateness of Mesia's fiscal account from expedition of Sonora. Included is fiscal account from expedition of Sonora compiled by officials of real Caja de Alamos which mentions funds obtained from confiscation of secular properties of Jesuits in northwestern New Spain, cost of maintaining newly-founded missions of San Diego and Monterrey, and state of affairs of tobacco production and sales in viceroyalty.
