Series of documents concerning Nicolas Ramirez' trip to ports of Noca and Monterrey as the Naval surgeon on the Frigata Princesa. Due to last minute preparations Ramirez had to leave with very little supplies or money. Correspondence concerning his request for medical supplies and money. F.252 about Quimper in port of San Blas with Frigata san Jose Al Ancla, concerns composition of ship's mast. F.253 concerns crew members of San Joseph y las Animas in Hospital in Acapulco, awaiting their recovery and cargo of livestock before shipping out. F.261 lists crew of san Joseph de las Animas. (A. Letters concerning fragata San Joseph y las Animas in port at Acapulco, requesting permission for return voyage to San Blas where crew may be paid. Port authority refuses departure until count of crew is reported. Quimper apparently is unsure of number of sailors returning with him as some have left Blanco, others are ill, awaiting permission to leave later. Decision made that those ill must remain in Acapulco, ship to leave without them. (A. Dean, June 1990)

Summary
Francisco Xavier Goni purchased ship (San Judas Fadeo) in the canaries and sailed for Havanna then Ostiones with load and passengers. After leaving Havana ship sank. Only few crew lived and told what happened. Documents verify discovery of wreckage parts and auction of same. Ff.131 appears to quote laws concerning finding of unclaimed objects. Ship's Matricula, ff. 155-156. Wages paid for unearthing of wreck, ff.111-114. Possible document of boat purchase by Goni, ff.162-163. Steal some of the wreckage from beach and were killed. Request made for money for Goni's widow, Maria Hernandez Goni. Ff.204 contains verification of the Goni's marriage, names their parents. (S. Langmack September 1989)

Lists of numbers of officers and craftsmen at four Principal California presidios, supply escorts, real reglamentos pertaining to details of presidio construction and tackle for cavalry companies. Ff. 354-356 is list of salaries and numbers of officers, craftsmen, and rations for presidios crews and ships, including Actual costs vs. Those alloted by missionaries, income from tobacco and other crops, purchase and distribution of mules, horses, and supplies, shipping, tackle for soldiers and settlers. Summary
Correspondence from Mariscal de Campo to Croix concerning 'visitas' to various towns and business attended to therein, such as collection of taxes; several brief letters stating that visita had gone well, no details included; others concerning how Mariscal dealt with murder of Indian; regarding treatment of Indians at certain missions, importance of spiritual training, conversion to and marriage of Indians according to Christian faith, 'repartimiento' of clothing among Indians; concerning Mariscal's organization of compania volante and associated squadrons, appeals for financing from real hacienda, nomination of suitable officers, relacion indicating structure, salaries, 'destinos' of compania once officially formed; regarding visitas to all squadrons of province, requests for adjustments to captains' salaries; discussing problems incurred in navigating certain rivers due to winds, tidal shifts, effects on local economy, Mariscal incorporates information on issue collected from 'peritos'; concerning granting of permission to foreign vessels to dock at ports; regarding discovery of new passages in old mines, statement of ownership and description of deposits.
